The Heart Behind Our Work

We’re Josh and Hila, artists, educators and parents to two little boys who remind us every day why creativity matters.

We live on beautiful Vancouver Island, where both our family and our surroundings inspire everything we do.

We studied in art academies, spent over a decade in the creative industry and taught hundreds of children. But nothing taught us more than becoming parents.

Through our own kids, we discovered something essential:

Drawing is far more than a skill. It’s a way for children to process life, express emotion, explore ideas, and make sense of the world around them.​

In our sessions, we see how each child brings different needs and experiences. Challenges, emotions and moments of growth naturally appear as they create. Drawing gives us a practical, flexible space to support this, a place where children can understand themselves better, build confidence and develop meaningful life skills through the creative process.​

This is where meaningful learning happens, and where some of the most important growth takes shape.

As parents and educators, this insight became our mission. We use drawing as a powerful tool for growth. A playful, intuitive language that helps children build confidence, communication, emotional awareness, creativity and curiosity.

The final artwork isn’t what matters. It’s the journey: the questions, the courage to try, the joy of discovery and the pride that comes when something inside them comes alive on the page.

SketchLab was created to nurture that journey and give every child a safe, inspiring space to imagine freely, explore boldly and feel proud of who they are.

This is our son Theo, age 4. We love watching him dive into drawing and let his imagination fly..
